Madrid witnessed jubilant celebrations on Monday as Spain marked their second FIFA World Cup triumph with a grand parade through the capital. However, amid the festivities, some light-hearted teasing was directed at Argentina’s midfielder Leandro Paredes.
During the parade, midfielder Fabián Ruiz received a sign from a supporter and proudly held it up for cameras, as captured in a video shared by the Spanish sports newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo'. The sign humorously read: “Velada del Año VII: Paredes vs Gavi.” According to reports from 't-online', “Velada del Año” is a popular boxing event in Spain.
The event, hosted by prominent streamer Ibai Llanos on Twitch, typically features internet personalities and celebrities facing off in boxing matches. Following the fiery encounter between Spain and Argentina in the World Cup final, fans are now calling for a special edition featuring Spain’s Gavi and Argentina’s Paredes.
During the final, Paredes had pushed Gavi to the ground in a heated exchange after the final whistle, a moment that drew widespread attention and sparked debate online.
As Ruiz displayed the fan’s sign to the camera, young star Lamine Yamal could be seen in the video repeatedly saying, “See you,” adding to the playful tone of Spain’s celebrations.
The incident added a touch of humour and rivalry to Spain’s victory parade, as players and fans enjoyed their moment of glory following their World Cup win.
