More than Rs 1.72 lakh crore spent on ethanol purchase Ethanol Blending
Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi told Parliament that government oil marketing companies have so far spent a total of more than Rs 1.72 lakh crore on ethanol procurement.
According to the government, Rs 48,757 crore was spent on ethanol purchase in the year 2023 to 24, Rs 73,996 crore in the year 2024 to 25 and Rs 49,577 crore was spent on ethanol purchase in the year 2025 to June till June.
501 production units registered
The government said that till July 16, 2026, government oil companies have registered 501 ethanol manufacturing units for the supply of denatured anhydrous ethanol under the Ethanol Blending Program. The government believes that this has strengthened the ethanol supply and production system across the country.
This company produced the maximum Ethanol Blending
Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum are producing fuel grade ethanol through their subsidiaries. According to government data, Hindustan Petroleum Biofuels produced the maximum of 9,373 kiloliters of ethanol. Whereas Indian Oil recorded production of 712 kiloliters and Bharat Petroleum recorded production of 76 kiloliters.
Uttar Pradesh is at the forefront
Uttar Pradesh remained at the forefront in the sale of ethanol mixed petrol. During the ethanol supply year 2024 to 25, 124.98 crore liters of ethanol mixed petrol was sold here. This was followed by Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Gujarat. The government said that due to the strong supplier network and procurement system, this program is expanding across the country.

What did the government say on E20 fuel?
The government also told in the Rajya Sabha that more than 20 crore two-wheelers and more than 3 crore petrol cars in the country are using E20 fuel (Ethanol Blending). These also include a large number of vehicles which were not specifically certified for E20.
According to the government, no such evidence has come to light so far to prove that e20 petrol Due to this, the engines of vehicles are getting damaged on a large scale. Besides, government oil companies are also regularly checking the quality of fuel at petrol pumps across the country.
