Kanpur. Under the leadership of Samajwadi Party Kanpur Metropolitan Metropolitan President Haji Fazal Mahmood, a demonstration was held at the Gandhi statue in Phulbagh at 11 am on Tuesday in protest against the increasing repressive policies in the country, lathi charge on students and the poor system of Kanpur city. The administration closed the gate of the Gandhi statue and locked it before the program, in an attempt to stop the workers from staging a protest.

Despite this, Samajwadi Party workers remained standing on the spot, drenched in torrential rain, and continued the protest, raising slogans against the government and administration. After the demonstration, the Samajwadi Party delegation under the leadership of Metropolitan President Haji Fazal Mahmood submitted a memorandum to ACP Kotwali Shri Amit Kumar Pandey demanding to stop the action being taken against Mohammad Ali Johar University, conduct an impartial investigation into the lathi charge on students, take strict action against the culprits of the paper leak and immediate solution to the burning public problems of Kanpur city.

Addressing the protest, Metropolitan President Haji Fazal Mahmood said that due to political hatred, Mohammad Ali Jauhar University located in Rampur is being targeted through administrative action. At the same time, educationist Sonam Wangchuk, who was carrying out a peaceful protest against paper leaks in examinations like NEET and UGC, was forcibly removed by the Delhi Police and the protesters were lathi-charged. He said that the central government has suppressed democratic rights by lathi-charging the students marching to Parliament. Samajwadi Party strongly opposes this and will continue to oppose every attempt to suppress the voice of students.

Haji Fazal Mahmood said that the condition of Kanpur city has also become very worrying. In the name of Chief Minister Grid Scheme, the roads of the entire city have been dug up and abandoned, due to which the roads have turned into swamps during the rains and people are becoming victims of accidents daily. The trade of many markets including KDA Market located in Jajmau has been completely affected. Waterlogging, sewer overflow, severe traffic jams, piles of garbage, increasing mosquito infestation, threat of diseases like dengue, malaria and chikungunya, unannounced power cuts, dilapidated electric poles and drinking water pipelines broken during excavation have become serious problems for the city residents. He said that the people of Kanpur are forced to live a hellish life despite paying taxes.
