Mumbai Rain Alert: The country’s financial capital Mumbai is once again in the grip of heavy rains. Since Wednesday morning, continuous torrential rains were recorded in many areas of South Mumbai and South-Central Mumbai, due to which life started getting affected. Waterlogging has started occurring on many roads, while the speed of traffic has also slowed down.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in Mumbai for July 22, 2026, predicting heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds during the next 24 hours. The administration has appealed to the people to remain alert and keep an eye on weather updates.

Danger of waterlogging in low-lying areas

Due to continuous rains, the possibility of water logging in many low-lying areas of the city has increased. Every year during monsoon, certain areas in Mumbai are most affected by waterlogging, affecting road traffic and daily life.

If the rain continues like this, vehicular movement on many major routes may be affected. In such a situation, office going employees and daily commuters have been advised to get information about traffic and weather before travelling.

Local train services may also be affected

Heavy rains may also affect the local train service, which is called the lifeline of Mumbai. Due to water logging on railway tracks or bad weather, the speed of trains may slow down and the possibility of delay in some services cannot be ruled out.

However, Railways and agencies are constantly monitoring the situation so that passengers face minimum inconvenience.

BMC issues warning regarding high tide

Amidst heavy rains, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also issued a special alert regarding high tide. According to officials, if heavy rains continue during high tide, sea water may enter coastal and low-lying areas, causing waterlogging to become more serious.

The Disaster Management Department has started special monitoring of sensitive areas and preparations have been made to start immediate relief work if needed.

In view of the bad weather and high sea waves, the administration has appealed to citizens and tourists to maintain distance from the beaches.

It has been especially advised to avoid unnecessary travel to Marine Drive, Haji Ali, Worli Sea Face, Bandra Bandstand and other coastal areas. The risk of accident may increase due to strong waves and slippage.

Mumbai Municipal Corporation has issued many important suggestions for the citizens. People have been told that:

• Be sure to get information about weather and traffic before travelling.
• In case of heavy rain, go out of the house only when necessary.
• Follow the guidelines issued by the administration and meteorological department.
• In case of any emergency, contact the helpline and control room.

Relief and rescue teams on alert mode

In view of possible waterlogging and emergency, relief and disaster management teams are fully alert. Municipal Corporation, Fire Department and other agencies have been deployed in sensitive areas so that immediate assistance can be provided in any situation.

The administration is continuously monitoring the weather conditions and additional resources can be deployed if needed.

The continuous rains in Mumbai and the possibility of high tide have once again created a challenge for the city. Amidst the Orange Alert of the Meteorological Department, citizens need to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel and follow the advisories issued by the administration.
