New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the police action against protesters during the CJP-led march in Delhi.
Rahul Gandhi made the remarks after visiting Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital with Congress MPs Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and KC Venugopal to meet people injured during Monday’s protest.
‘Prime Minister Should Apologize’
Speaking to reporters, Rahul Gandhi questioned the Prime Minister’s silence over the incident and said students protesting against alleged problems in the education and examination system deserved to be heard.
He accused the police of using force against young protesters and called on the government to stop what he described as the mistreatment of students.
Rahul Gandhi said competitive examinations were among the few available routes for young people seeking employment and better opportunities, but repeated controversies had damaged their confidence in the system.
Demands Resignation of Senior Ministers
The Congress leader demanded accountability from the Centre, calling for Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. He also targeted the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister over the handling of the protest.
Rahul Gandhi argued that the agitation was not limited to one examination controversy but reflected wider concerns among young people about jobs, education and their future.
Priyanka Gandhi Backs Students
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also criticized the police action, saying students and their families make major financial and personal sacrifices for education and competitive examinations.
She said the protesters had genuine concerns and accused the government of failing to address a problem that had continued for several years. Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi also backed the party’s stand, saying Congress had already made its position on the police action clear.
