Love might be waiting for you in the grocery aisle

Move over, dating apps – Finland’s latest matchmaking tool costs nothing and comes with wheels. Several supermarkets across the country have started stocking bright pink shopping baskets , and picking one up means exactly one thing: you’re single, and you’re open to being approached. The quirky concept went viral after social media creator Roya Fox shared her delightful discovery, leaving millions of viewers charmed by the refreshingly simple idea.

Pink basket, green signal

At major chains like K-Supermarket and S-Market, the pink baskets, locally dubbed Sinkku kori are meant for singles who are happy to strike up a conversation while picking up groceries. Fox explained that anyone hoping to meet someone can simply choose a pink basket at the entrance. “You don’t have to go to a bar or a club,” she said. The system runs entirely on mutual consent: a pink-basket shopper can only be approached by another pink-basket shopper, making introductions feel far less intimidating.

Going viral, one aisle at a time

The clip has amassed over 15.5mn views, with people applauding the creative idea. Some users joked about painting their own shopping baskets pink, while others admitted they’d just use one because it’s their favourite colour. One user added that as someone whose favourite hobby is visiting foreign grocery stores, “this is genius.”
