Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has said actor Adam Driver has repeatedly turned down opportunities to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe but the studio remains interested in working with the Oscar-nominated star.

Speaking on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, Feige said the studio has held several conversations with Driver over the years but the actor has declined each time.

"It's no secret we'd like to (work with Adam). But it's a tradition to Zoom with him and then he passes. That's a long-lived tradition. He couldn't be more cordial. He is usually upfront about how he is feeling," Feige said.

Feige did not disclose which Marvel roles Driver had been offered.

Addressing speculation that the actor is being considered to play Magneto in Marvel Studios' upcoming "X-Men" reboot, he said no casting decisions have been made for the project.

Driver is best known for playing Kylo Ren, also known as Ben Solo, in the latest "Star Wars" trilogy.

Last year, the actor said he had explored returning to the "Star Wars" franchise through a proposed film centred on Ben Solo with filmmaker Steven Soderbergh, but the project did not move forward.

Driver said Lucasfilm responded positively to the idea, but Disney executives Bob Iger and Alan Bergman ultimately decided against pursuing the film.
