India's injury problems have come under the spotlight again, with recent reports highlighting that players are not kept informed enough by the BCCI during the rehabilitation process. The issue is even more pressing following India's recent series defeats in the white-ball formats in England, where captain Shubman Gill indicated that workload management is crucial.
A report citing a BCCI source has said :
"Injured players who do not turn up at the CoE in Bangalore are largely left to their own devices, and players are not asked how they are getting along with treatment unless they are being treated at the CoE."
The source told TOI :
"There are hardly any all-format players. Most players are not subjected to back-to-back international commitments. If not recovering at the CoE, they are just left by themselves with no communication"
The report also highlighted a lack of communication between the players and the team management. This has led to a breakdown in communication in the way training and recovery are being managed; consequently, players are not getting the right attention while injured.

Rohit Sharma's Injury Raises Bigger Questions
Indian captain Rohit Sharma during IPL 2026 after he was hit by a hamstring injury while playing for Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians franchise management failed to identify the problem, and all the time Rohit himself called the BCCI database to check on previous injury history.
The situation has brought to light the issue of the grading of player injuries from different cricket boards worldwide.
The report also mentioned that since the exit of former head physiotherapist Nitin Patel, the Centre of Excellence has been functioning with a relatively small medical team. It suggested that the existing medical structure may require reinforcing in order to serve the needs of modern cricket.
Shubman Gill recently highlighted the significance of workload management as India suffered an ODI series defeat against England. India have lost key players to injury before or during major tours in recent times, and Gill's observations were made soon after this.
The report further observed that players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah need to be managed keep a close watch on their workload given their key role within the team.
It is not yet known if the current injuries are a result of bad communication between the coaching staff and the medical team, but the recent claims have only reaffirmed the need for improved communication, stronger medical support and a well-structured injury management system.
With the heavy international schedule that India has ahead, one of the things that could be the team's major focus before the next lot of assignments is better management of the players' fitness.
