After years of lending her voice to films, television and independent music, singer-songwriter Anasmita Ghosh is now in the spotlight with Chole Jeona from Phool Pishi O Edward .

Speaking about the opportunity, Anasmita said, "Getting an opportunity to work with Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee was more than a dream come true. The journey from singing the scratch for the same song to recording the final version was exciting and a massive learning experience."

While Chole Jeona is her latest playback outing, Anasmita has built a diverse career as a singer, composer and lyricist. She began her musical journey with the Hindi independent album Mashruf in 2014, featuring four self-composed tracks.

As a lyricist, she has written songs for artistes including Anwesshaa Dasgupta, Antara Nandy, Shovan Ganguly, Ronkini Gupta and Ashwin Srinivasan. She also penned a Hindi song for the Bengali film Michael (2018). Her independent songs Sunle Maula and Ye Zindagi earned her the Best Lyricist award at the Clef Music Awards in Mumbai in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

Anasmita has also contributed to Bengali cinema through playback singing, featuring in films such as Bye Bye Bangkok, Belashuru and Bohurupi. Beyond films, she has sung for television serials including Rani Rashmoni and Potol Kumar Gaanwala, besides working on theatre productions such as Gandhi vs Gandhi.

Originally from Bokaro, she moved to Kolkata to pursue music and trained for a decade at Shrutinandan under Pt Ajoy Chakraborty. She has also received training in Rabindrasangeet, ghazals, Western vocals and rhythm from several noted gurus.

The artiste is now balancing live performances and commercial recordings with independent projects. She revealed that she is currently working on a ghazal album featuring both her own compositions and works by other composers, which she hopes to release ahead of Durga Puja.
