Big jump for Shubman Gill in ICC rankings, just one point away from becoming number-1

Cricket Updates: In the latest ICC ODI rankings, Indian captain Shubman Gill has come very close to becoming the world number-1 batsman. Gill is currently placed second with 801 rating points, just one point behind top New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell (802 points). If his excellent performance continues then he can take the number-1 crown in the next ranking.

Rohit Sharma has also made great progress among Indian batsmen. He got the benefit of playing a strong inning of 138 runs in the Lord’s ODI against England in the ranking. Rohit is now in fourth place and is just 9 rating points behind third-placed Virat Kohli. This has made the battle for top-3 between the two giants more exciting.

England’s experienced batsman Joe Root has also taken a huge leap. On the basis of his consistently excellent performance in the ODI series against India, he has gained four places and placed at number eight. Root has returned to the top-10 list of ODI batsmen after almost six years. Ben Duckett, who scored 141 runs in Lord’s ODI, has jumped 11 places to reach joint 19th position.

In the bowlers’ rankings, India’s Akshar Patel, West Indies’ Alzarri Joseph and England’s Sam Curran have gained 10 places each. Akshar has now reached 32nd position, Joseph has reached 26th position and Karan has reached 70th position. New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner has reached fourth position and West Indies’ Gudakesh Moti has reached joint ninth position. Many players have also made big leaps in the T20 international rankings. Bangladesh’s Tanjid Hasan has reached his career-best ranking of 20th. Zimbabwe all-rounder Brian Bennett entered the top-10 for the first time by reaching ninth position, while fast bowler Richard Ngarwa has jumped 37 places to a career-best 32nd position.
