Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday clarified his stand on the NEET paper leak issue in the Lok Sabha and said that the government is ready for discussion in the Parliament. He requested Speaker Om Birla to discuss the arrangement with the floor leaders of all parties and inform them. However, even after Kiren Rijiju’s assurance, the uproar continued in the House.

When proceedings in the Lok Sabha resumed at 12 noon, the opposition raised the issue of NEET paper leak and police action against protesters in Delhi. Congress MP KC Venugopal reiterated the opposition’s demand for the resignation of the Education Minister and urged the government to accept an adjournment motion to discuss the issue.

Venugopal said, “Our demand is very clear that the education minister should resign. If you accept the adjournment motion, then discuss it.”

Responding to this, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the Central Government is ready to discuss the issue of NEET. However, he clarified that the format, duration and procedural rules of the debate will be decided by the Speaker after consultation with the floor leaders of all political parties.

He said, “For the last three days, we have been giving proposals for discussion to the opposition. Today I say again that the government is ready to discuss the issue of NEET paper leak. But the discussion in the House takes place under some rules and necessary arrangements have to be made for it.”

Rijiju said, “I request that the Speaker of the Lok Sabha should discuss with the floor leaders of all parties and inform us about when the discussion will take place, what will be its duration and under what rules it will be held. The government is fully ready for the discussion.”

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also intervened and said that this matter is above party politics and is directly to the future of students and youth across the country. He said that every political party should be given a chance to present its views in the House.

At the same time, despite Speaker Om Birla’s efforts to end the deadlock and conduct business normally, opposition MPs continued their protest inside the House. The Speaker said that the government has already expressed its willingness to discuss this issue through the statement of Kiren Rijiju. He appealed to the opposition to take part in the debate instead of continuing the protest inside the House.

However, the opposition members continued their protest, due to which the House proceedings were adjourned till 2 pm.
