New Delhi. Students’ protest continues at Jantar Mantar. Students are continuously adamant on demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Sonam Wangchuk, who is present in the hospital, has written a letter to Union Minister JP Nadda and Dr Jitendra Singh on Wednesday. In this, Soman Wangchuk said that he would end his fast if the government assures that no punitive or retaliatory legal action will be taken against any of the young protesters involved in the movement. If this does not happen, they will continue their fast.

Sonam Wangchuk wrote in her letter, thank you for coming to meet me in the hospital last night and for your appeal to end my fast. During our conversation, you assured me that the government will consider these things positively. He said, appropriate compensation should be given to the families of students who committed suicide after the exam paper was leaked. There should be a meaningful discussion in Parliament to fix accountability, which should also include considering the resignation of the Honorable Education Minister.

Along with this it was written, ‘Chalo Sansad’ march held on 20 July 2026 was very peaceful, while the police used more force than necessary. The entire country and the world saw his patience and determination towards democratic protest. I sincerely hope that this trust in democratic institutions will not be further undermined by any legal matters, harassment or retaliatory action against those involved.

After your visit, about 65 MPs from different parties have written to me; Some people have already arrived and the rest are expected to arrive by this evening. All of them have urged me to end my fast and reminded me that I still have a lot of work to do in the service of the country. I agree with him. I want to live. I want to return to my students, education and the work that has given my life an identity. But I cannot do this at the expense of the young people for whom this movement was started.

Therefore, I respectfully seek a clear assurance from the government that no punitive or retaliatory legal action will be taken against any young protestor who joins this movement. His only “crime” has been to raise his voice for a fair and accountable education system.

If such an assurance is given, I will end my fast with the confidence that the government has not only heard my appeal but has also understood the aspirations of millions of young Indians. In the absence of such assurance, I will be forced to continue my fast indefinitely. I also hope that police force will not be used excessively to suppress the movement. The future of our democracy depends not on how it treats those who agree with it, but on how it treats its young citizens when they dare to speak out with courage, hope, and conviction.
