The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a big step towards encouraging meritorious girl students of the state for higher education. The Cabinet has approved the Rani Laxmibai Scooty Scheme, under which free scooters will be provided to eligible girl students. The objective of this scheme is to make education of daughters easier, provide them safe transportation facilities and make them self-reliant.

Which girl students will get the benefit of the scheme?

Not all girl students will get the benefit of the scheme. The government has set clear eligibility for this. Meritorious girl students who have passed graduation from state universities, private universities or their affiliated government, aided and self-financed colleges in the academic session 2025-26 will be eligible for this scheme.

Selection will be done on the basis of merit. Beneficiaries will be selected by preparing a list of eligible girl students of each district and institute.

What will you get with Scooty?

The government will not only provide the scooter, but will also bear the expenses of many important facilities to it. The selected girl students will also be provided with scooter and facilities like registration, insurance, helmet and initial fuel. This will not put additional financial burden on the girl students and they will be able to use the vehicle immediately.

There will be a ban on selling scooters

The government has also made some strict rules regarding the scooters available under the scheme. The beneficiary girl students will not be able to sell the scooter or transfer it to any other person for the stipulated period. The objective of this rule is to ensure that only genuine eligible students get the benefit of government assistance and the scheme is not misused.

Women empowerment will get a boost

Experts believe that many girl students from rural and semi-urban areas face transportation difficulties in commuting to college. Many times this problem also becomes the reason for leaving higher education midway.

In such a situation, getting free scooty will increase regular attendance of girl students, travel will be safe and convenient and families will also get financial relief.

How will the selection and distribution be done?

The Higher Education Department will issue detailed guidelines for the operation of the scheme. Eligible girl students will be selected on the basis of merit list of the respective educational institutions. After this, after completion of the verification process at the district level, scooters will be distributed to the selected girl students.
