The dominance of SUVs is continuously increasing in the Indian auto market, but the demand for sedan cars has not weakened completely. Sales figures for June 2026 show that the sedan segment performed better than last year. However, a decline was recorded in sales compared to May 2026. During this period, Maruti Suzuki Dzire once again won the title of best selling sedan, while Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze also performed strongly.

A total of 31,183 units of the nine sedan models included in this report were sold in June 2026, which is about 10 percent more than in June 2025. At the same time, a total of 1,03,456 units were sold in the first quarter of April-June 2026, which shows an increase of about 18 percent compared to the same period last year.

Maruti Dzire shows its dominance again

17,899 units of Maruti Suzuki Dzire were sold in June 2026. This is 15.6 percent more than June last year. The special thing was that Dzire alone achieved 57.4 percent share in the sales of the entire sedan segment.

However, 24,546 units of Dzire were sold in May 2026, while in June this figure came down to 17,899. That means there was a decrease of about 6,647 units in a month. Despite this, Dzire remained almost three times ahead of its nearest competitor in terms of sales.

Aura and Amaze increase competition, three cars capture 86% market

Hyundai Aura stood second in terms of sales, with 5,977 units sold. Aura sales registered an increase on both annual and monthly basis. Honda Amaze stood third, with 2,937 units delivered to customers. Amaze also performed better than both last year and last month.

Interestingly, Dzire, Aura and Amaze together captured about 86 percent of the total sedan cars sold in June. This clearly indicates that the demand for compact sedan cars less than 4 meters in length still remains highest among Indian customers.

Tough competition in Virtus-Slavia, mixed performance of other models

Volkswagen Virtus held the first position in the mid-size sedan segment with sales of 1,195 units, although its year-on-year sales declined. Whereas Skoda Slavia gave a tough competition to Virtus by selling 1,083 units and the difference between the two was only 112 units.

Apart from this, 745 units of Honda City, total 602 units of Tata Tigor and Tigor EV and 554 units of Hyundai Verna were sold. Toyota Camry had the lowest sales, but registered a slight increase compared to last year.

Data for June 2026 show that despite the popularity of SUVs, the compact sedan segment continues to maintain its strong hold among Indian customers, with Maruti Dzire still at the forefront.
