Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez has defended his national team's attitude at the 2026 World Cup. He insisted the squad played with "pride" and "humility" despite their defeat in the final and an ongoing FIFA investigation into their behaviour after the match.

The reigning world champions fell 1-0 to Spain in Sunday's showpiece, with Ferran Torres netting the decisive goal in the 106th minute to hand La Roja their second global crown.

Fernandez's night ended early, as he was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Pau Cubarsi and dismissed from the pitch.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, the Chelsea midfielder reflected on Argentina's campaign rather than the result alone.

"As time goes by, you realise there is something much bigger than just a result," Fernandez wrote.

"For years, this group has represented us in the best possible way. It teaches that competing isn't just about winning; it's about giving your all for the jersey and never giving up.

"It has been a privilege to be part of a group that always stepped up, competed at the highest level, and defended these colours with pride, humility, and commitment."

His comments came as FIFA confirmed it had opened an investigation into incidents involving the Argentina squad following the final whistle. The governing body said the probe concerns potential breaches of the FIFA Disciplinary Code stemming from the post-match incidents, though no disciplinary decisions have yet been announced.

Despite the loss and the ongoing disciplinary review, Fernandez's message underscored the unity and resilience that have defined Argentina's campaign over recent years.
