Are gas cylinder prices set to rise?

Following a temporary easing of crude oil prices in the global market, the price of commercial gas cylinders was slashed by ₹183.50 on July 1. In contrast, domestic gas cylinder prices remained unchanged. However, if tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and the suspension of crude oil loading from Iraq persist for an extended period, pressure on oil companies will mount. Consequently, companies might raise prices in the coming weeks or early August to offset their losses.

Recently, Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) cancelled plans to lift 2 million barrels of Iraqi oil using its massive tanker, 'Leela'. Similarly, Mangalore Refinery (MRPL) has halted the loading of its tanker, 'Desh Gaurav'. The Ministry of Shipping has issued an advisory prohibiting Indian seafarers from traversing the perilous Strait of Hormuz route, as vessels are frequently being targeted there.
