H Vinoth says ‘Jana Nayagan’ may not be Vijay’s last film

With Jana Supervisor nearing its release, director H. Vinoth suggested that it might be too early to call the film Vijay’s final appearance on the big screen.

The film had been announced as the last movie of actor-turned-politician and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay. While fans had looked forward to its release, many had also believed it would mark the end of his acting career.

During an interview with Cinema Vikatan, Vinoth said that no one could be certain about Vijay’s future in films.

“Whether this is really his last film, no one can say for sure. But you could say this is CM Vijay sir’s first film,” he said.

The Valimai director also spoke about the film’s subject and said it went beyond regular commercial entertainment.

“It’s not just made to praise or glorify Vijay sir. It talks about very sensitive politics. Even if people have already seen or know about these issues, I think this film will spark a lot of discussion. So, the success of this movie is our success too,” he said.

Ahead of its release, Jana Nayagan had received a strong response in advance bookings. Trade reports stated that the film had sold more than four lakh tickets for its opening day. The reported advance collection had crossed ₹11 crore without blocked seats and had reached more than ₹16 crore with blocked seats.

The film had also faced a delay before its release. It had originally been scheduled to arrive in cinemas in January 2026, but it was postponed after it did not receive certification from the Central Board of Film Certification.

The makers had later approached the court before withdrawing the case. The film was then reviewed by the Revising Committee and eventually received an ‘A’ certificate after several cuts and changes.

Jana Supervisor is now scheduled to release in theatres on July 23, 2026.
