New Delhi: Abhinav Bindra, the first Indian to win an individual Olympic gold medal, has emphasized the need for an educational framework that fosters confidence. His remarks come in light of ongoing protests against alleged irregularities in the NEET examination, which have tragically resulted in student suicides nationwide.
While Bindra refrained from directly addressing the protests aimed at the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, he highlighted the importance of a transparent and meritocratic educational system.
"I have never viewed myself as a political figure. However, I believe certain issues transcend political affiliations, and education is one of them," he expressed on X.
He further stated, "A nation's worth is not solely measured by its economic success or achievements but by the opportunities it provides for its youth. An education system that instills confidence, rewards merit, and fosters curiosity is among a nation's most significant assets."
Bindra concluded with a hopeful message, urging collective efforts to enhance the education system, ensuring it serves as a beacon of opportunity, innovation, and hope for future generations.
The protests are being led by the Cockroach Janata Party, with environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk supporting the cause through a hunger strike. Wangchuk, initially hospitalized at Safdarjung due to deteriorating health, has since been moved to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram following a request from his wife to the Delhi High Court.
On July 20, thousands of students attempted to march towards Parliament to voice their grievances but were met with resistance from Delhi Police, who employed tear gas and batons to disperse the crowd.
