As per the guidelines of State Transport Commissioner, Punjab, Chandigarh, a special checking drive was conducted by Secretary, RTA on 21st July. During this drive, vehicles plying on the road were checked and strict action was taken against drivers violating motor vehicle rules, and a total of 28 challans were issued amounting to ₹7,82,500. From the date of assuming charge of Secretary, RTA/RTO from 23.02.2026 to 21.07.2026, 939 challans were issued, the total amount of which was Rs.2,97,00,111/—.

The Regional Transport Authority has instructed all the drivers to keep all the documents of their vehicles (registration certificate, fitness certificate, driving license, valid insurance, pollution certificate, permit, tax, etc.) up-to-date. Action will continue under the Motor Vehicle Act against drivers without documents and those who do not follow motor vehicle rules. All school bus drivers have also been instructed to ensure that they follow the guidelines issued under the Safe School Vehicle Policy and keep all the documents to their buses (registration certificate, fitness certificate, driving license, valid insurance, pollution certificate, permit, tax, etc.) up-to-date and if any violation of the Safe School Vehicle Policy is found, then cases will be registered against them under the Motor Vehicle Act. Action will be taken accordingly.

Apart from this, the Regional Transport Authority has also asked all the parents not to send their children to school in auto-rickshaws, rickshaws or other unauthorized vehicles. Children should be sent only in those school buses or school vehicles which have valid school permit, fitness certificate, insurance and all other necessary documents, so that any untoward incident can be avoided in future.
