For the last few days, an image showing Naseeruddin Shah at the Jantar Mantar protest has been circulating on social media. The image, however, was not from the ongoing Delhi protest. On Tuesday, the veteran actor released a video, offering his support to the Gen Z protesters and urging them not to lose hope.


Speaking directly to the students, Naseeruddin Shah said that even after studying acting at the National School of Drama (NSD) and the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), some of his biggest lessons came from the young people he had the privilege of teaching. 
“Meri hamdardi unke saath hai aur main unhe hazaar duaein deta hoon aur har Teachers’ Day pe unko salaam karta hoon,” he said. 
His voice turned emotional as he spoke about the police action against the students and said,” Iss waqt mera dil bhi bhara hua hai aur main gusse se khaul bhi raha hoon yeh dekhkar ke hamare bachchon ke saath kis tarah zulm ka bartav kiya ja raha hai unn gundon ke haathon jo mujhe America ke ICE agents ki yaad dilate hain munh mein naqaab lagaye hue aur haath mein danda liye hue.”


He also had a message for them: “ Kabhi apne bachchon ke baare mein bhi socha karo aur yeh bhi socho ki tumhara anjaam tumhe bhi ek din milega zaroor.” 
He told the students, “Himmat na haarein. Bahut se log aapke saath hain. Aap ladte rahein. Mujhe hamare mulk ki yuva peedhi se hamesha ummeed rahi hai. Aur woh ummeed ab aur ujagar ho gayi hai.Aap log apni ladaai ladte rahein, hum sab aapke saath hain. ”
