New Delhi: Thalapathy Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan, has finally hit theatres after battling several roadblocks. The film has opened to massive celebrations across the country, with fans dancing inside the theatres and burning firecrackers.

The anticipation surrounding the film continues to soar, and it is expected to translate into a massive box office opening.

In an exclusive conversation with News9 Digital, trade expert Girish Johar opined on the film’s box office prediction and whether piracy can impact the collection of the film.

Jana Nayagan Box Office Prediction

Trade expert Girish Johar told us that the film is likely to earn Rs 100 crore worldwide on its opening day.

He said, “The film is tracking extremely well, and the expectations are phenomenal. It is releasing on more than 5,000–7,000 screens globally and is expected to open at around Rs 100 crore worldwide on Day 1. In South India alone, it could touch the Rs 60–70 crore mark.”

“What’s even more impressive is that it’s releasing on a non-holiday, mid-week Thursday. That clearly shows the level of excitement surrounding the film,” he further added.

When we asked if Jana Nayagan could become Vijay’s highest-grosser, he said, “We all hope so. Everyone wants that to happen, and the film certainly looks capable of achieving it. But let’s wait and see how audiences respond.”

Can the leak impact Jana Nayagan’s box office collection?

Girish Johar also opined on whether the leak of the film earlier can impact the box office collection of the film. He told us, “I don’t think so. Everyone knows this is Vijay’s last film as an actor, and audiences want to watch him on the big screen. Secondly, the makers have already stated that they’ve made changes to the film after the leak, so there will be something new for audiences.”

He added, “Thirdly, ever since Vijay became the Chief Minister, there has been a very positive sentiment around him—not just in Tamil Nadu but across India, including the North. People appreciate the work he is doing for society. Combined with the fact that this is his final silver-screen outing, audiences naturally want to experience it in theatres. The strong advance booking numbers also reflect that excitement.”

Did the controversy helped the film gain moment?

When we asked Johar if the controversy around Jana Nayagan helped the film gain momentum in the last few months, he said, “The controversy certainly generated a lot of publicity. There was widespread discussion about the film being stalled, and naturally, that increased awareness and curiosity. People began asking why a filmmaker was taking the legal route over a film’s certification. From what I understand, the makers eventually resolved the issues with the CBFC, and the film is now releasing. So yes, controversies like these often help in creating awareness.”

Jana Nayagan advance booking sales

According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Jana Nayagan is heading for a massive box office opening. BookMyShow pre-sales surged from 11,770 tickets on July 16 to around 4.51 lakh tickets on July 22, taking the total bookings to 11.82 lakh tickets.

So far, the film has recorded Rs 41.56 crore gross in worldwide Day 1 pre-sales and Rs 47.55 crore including block seats.

In India, the Tamil version dominates with Rs 21.71 crore gross, while Telugu and Hindi versions have contributed Rs 33.92 lakh and Rs 21.17 lakh, respectively. The domestic advance booking total stands at Rs 28.25 crore, including block seats.
