Liverpool have entered the competition to secure a long-term replacement for right-winger Mohamed Salah but are facing stiff opposition from Paris Saint-Germain, the reigning back-to-back UEFA Champions League champions, according to fresh reports.

The Reds are said to have made an initial approach to AS Monaco regarding French winger Maghnes Akliouche, who has been part of the club’s first-team setup for the last five seasons after coming through their youth academy.

Paris Saint-Germain are believed to have submitted several formal offers for the 24-year-old, all of which have been rejected by Monaco. The World Cup winger was a regular starter in Ligue 1 last season under former head coach Sebastien Pocognoli, who has since left the club.

Monaco, who recently appointed former Brazil international and ex-Atletico Madrid and Chelsea defender Filipe Luis as their new manager, are unwilling to sell Akliouche for a low price. However, with two years remaining on his current contract, this summer represents a prime opportunity for Monaco to capitalise on his market value and turn his development into significant profit.

Liverpool hold a potential advantage as they are not a domestic rival, though they may still face a substantial transfer fee if their interest is serious. Reports suggest PSG have already had a £34 million bid turned down by Monaco for the winger.

“Liverpool were interested in RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, but the German club were only willing to consider offers of around £112 million for the Ivory Coast international,” reported Sky Sports. “The Reds indicated their readiness to pay up to £86 million. Other targets, including Akliouche, are now under consideration.”

Sky Sports News further revealed that Liverpool have made enquiries about the potential availability of the 24-year-old French international as part of their ongoing transfer strategy.

Born in the north-eastern suburbs of Paris, Akliouche joined Monaco’s youth system nine years ago before earning promotion to the senior squad in 2021. Since then, he has made 139 appearances across all competitions, scoring 23 goals and building a strong reputation that led to his selection by Didier Deschamps for France’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad in May.

During the tournament, Akliouche featured as a substitute for seven minutes in France’s 3-0 victory over Iraq in their final group-stage match. He now boasts 10 senior caps for the French national team.

In Ligue 1 last season, Akliouche averaged a goal or an assist every 200 minutes, primarily operating from the right flank — a position now vacant at Anfield following Salah’s departure, which new manager Andoni Iraola is eager to address.

Liverpool have already made two high-profile signings this summer. Spanish winger Victor Munoz joined from Osasuna for a fee similar to the amount Monaco rejected for Akliouche, while French defender Jeremy Jacquet arrived for a reported £54 million. Jacquet is expected to strengthen Iraola’s defensive options following the exits of Ibrahima Konate to Real Madrid and Andrew Robertson to Tottenham Hotspur.
