Michael Carrick has another opportunity to experiment with his squad as Manchester United’s pre-season preparations continue.

While results are not the main focus during this stage, Carrick will be eager to register a win this summer after missing out against Wrexham in Helsinki in their previous game.

That outcome was far from ideal, but the primary objective was to provide valuable playing time to 22 players, a goal Carrick successfully achieved. The manager is expected to adopt a similar approach in Norway.

In that fixture, he utilised two different line-ups for the first and second halves, and a comparable rotation is on the cards once again.

However, a few players remain unavailable for selection. Benjamin Sesko continues his recovery from a shin injury, while Matthijs De Ligt is still on the mend after recent back surgery. Goalkeeper Karl Darlow is also sidelined following a minor procedure.

Carrick fielded a strong starting XI composed mainly of first-team regulars in the match against Wrexham. Although several changes are anticipated for the Rosenborg encounter, he will likely aim to maintain the cohesion of his core group.

New signing Andrey Santos made a notable impression on his Manchester United debut and is expected to retain his place in midfield. Mason Mount may be rested, giving Tyler Fletcher a chance to feature alongside Santos. Meanwhile, Youri Tielemans has yet to join the squad.

Joshua Zirkzee, who continues to be linked with a transfer away from Old Trafford this summer, led the line against Wrexham and should keep his spot. On the wings, Patrick Dorgu and Bryan Mbeumo are set to enjoy more valuable minutes on the pitch.

Teenager Harry Amass caught the eye after replacing Luke Shaw in Finland and could be rewarded with a starting role this time.

Veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton is expected to start in goal. Fellow shot-stopper Radek Vitek might be omitted after publicly expressing his desire to leave following the Wrexham fixture, though Carrick could still choose to give him another opportunity to impress prospective clubs.

Additionally, young defender Tynan Thompson could make his first appearance since joining from Tottenham earlier this week.
