New Delhi: Maharashtra bandh has been called on Thursday in support of the student movement. This bandh called by Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) has received support from many political parties, student organizations, educational institutions and labor unions. Security arrangements have been tightened in the state regarding the bandh. There is a question in the minds of common people that what will be open today and which services may be affected.
Why was Maharashtra bandh called?
VBA chief Prakash Ambedkar said that this bandh has been called in support of the ongoing student movement at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. They allege that the government has not yet taken any concrete decision on the demands of the students. He said that this bandh is necessary to show solidarity with the students who are agitating democratically.
What will remain open, what will be closed?
During the bandh, shops, markets and private establishments may be kept voluntarily closed in some cities and areas. However, essential services like hospitals, medical stores, ambulances and other emergency services will continue as normal. Public transport is also likely to run normally, but due to demonstrations and rallies, there may be traffic jams and diversions at some places.
Got support from many organizations
VBA claims that this bandh has the support of leftist parties, educational institutions, coaching centers and many labor organizations. The organization says that continuous talks are being held with various unions and social organizations so that the movement can get widespread support.
Appealed to Rahul Gandhi also
Prakash Ambedkar has also appealed to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to reach Jantar Mantar and support the students’ movement. He says that this is not just an issue of any one organisation, but to the rights of youth and students, hence all the opposition parties should unite and support.
Police strictness and security arrangements
Before the bandh, police increased security in Chaityabhoomi area of Dadar in Mumbai. Barricading was done at many places and precautionary action was also taken against some leaders and workers. The administration says that all necessary steps are being taken to maintain law and order.
advice for people
If you are planning to travel in Maharashtra on Thursday, then definitely get the latest information about traffic and local administration before leaving home. In areas where demonstrations are likely to take place, it would be better to adopt alternative routes. At the same time, essential services are expected to remain available as before, so there is no need for common people to panic.
