Infosys Q1 FY27 Results: Infosys, the second-largest IT services firm in India by market capitalization, has reported a significant increase in profits for the first quarter of the financial year 2026-27. This growth is attributed to rising revenues, stable margins, and successful large deal acquisitions. In conjunction with its earnings report, the company introduced its long-term leadership succession plan, appointing Ashiss Kumar Dash as the CEO designate.
For the April to June quarter (Q1FY27), Infosys recorded a consolidated net profit of ₹7,769 crore, reflecting a 12.3% rise compared to ₹6,921 crore from the same quarter last year. However, there was an 8.6% decline in profit sequentially from ₹8,501 crore in the previous quarter (Q4FY26). Revenue from operations surged to ₹48,211 crore, marking a 14% year-on-year increase and a 3.9% rise from the previous quarter. The company had reported revenues of ₹42,279 crore in Q1FY26 and ₹46,402 crore in Q4FY26.
Leadership Transition Announced
Infosys has also revealed that Ashiss Kumar Dash will assume the role of CEO and Managing Director starting April 1, 2027, for a five-year term. Nandan Nilekani, Chairman of the Board, expressed satisfaction with Dash's appointment, emphasizing the need for a leader capable of driving transformation while upholding the company's values and customer trust. Nilekani noted that Salil Parekh, the current CEO, has played a crucial role in the company's turnaround and will continue to lead until March 31, 2027, collaborating with Dash for a smooth transition.
Strong Margins Amid Challenges
During the quarter, Infosys maintained robust profitability, with earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) rising 15.4% year-on-year to ₹10,163 crore. The EBIT margin improved to 21.1%, up 0.3 percentage points from the previous year and 0.1 percentage points sequentially. Basic earnings per share (EPS) stood at ₹19.19, reflecting a 14.9% annual increase. Jayesh Sanghrajka, CFO of Infosys, stated that the company's resilient margins and strong cash generation highlight the effectiveness of its business model and operational excellence in a challenging market.
Sanghrajka added that the company is increasing investments in AI, talent, and platforms to foster future growth while ensuring productivity and financial flexibility to seize emerging opportunities and deliver sustainable shareholder value.
Business performance varied across sectors. In constant currency, revenue from the financial services segment grew by 2.4% year-on-year, while the life sciences sector saw a notable 24% increase. The energy, utilities, resources, and services segment, along with communications, each experienced a 1.3% growth. The hi-tech sector returned to growth with a 2.4% rise, whereas retail revenue fell by 1.8%. Salil Parekh remarked that the momentum in AI is translating into revenue, showcasing how Infosys' unique enterprise AI value proposition is leading to consistent market share gains.
