Manchester United have named 15-year-old JJ Gabriel in their senior squad for Friday’s friendly match against Norwegian club Rosenborg.
Gabriel is regarded as one of the most promising young talents at Old Trafford, and the club has been closely monitoring his progress amid growing interest from teams across Europe.
Following an outstanding 2025/26 youth season, during which he helped Manchester United reach the FA Youth Cup final, Gabriel has now earned a call-up to Michael Carrick’s first-team setup. The teenager could make his first senior appearance in a non-competitive fixture tomorrow.
If Gabriel manages to impress the coaching staff at senior level, he could be in contention for an official debut later this season. With his 16th birthday coming up in October, he has the potential to break the club record for the youngest-ever Manchester United player — a record currently held by goalkeeper David Gaskell, who made his debut at 16 years and 19 days old.
Gaskell’s first appearance came in Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over rivals Manchester City in the 1956 Charity Shield under legendary manager Matt Busby. He remained with the club until 1968 before going on to play for Wigan Athletic, Wrexham, and South African side Arcadia Shepherds. Gaskell passed away last year at the age of 84.
