New Delhi: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has condemned the attack by Houthi rebels on Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea. According to PMO, Shehbaz Sharif has spoken on phone to Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

After the attack by Iran-backed Houthis on Thursday morning, Shehbaz Sharif spoke to the PM of Saudi Arabia on phone. During the conversation, PM Shahbaz said that Pakistan strongly condemns the attack by Houthi militia on Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea.

In fact, Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels had recently announced a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia. The Houthis said they would stop Saudi ships in Bab al-Mandeb in response to Saudi Arabia’s blockade of ports and airports in areas under their control in Yemen.

‘Violation of international law and threat to regional peace’

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that such actions are completely invalid. This is a direct violation of international law. This threatens the freedom of movement of ships and commercial shipping, causing harm to regional peace, security and stability. PM Shahbaz assured that Pakistan is with Saudi Arabia.

He said that he himself, Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and the entire Pakistan stand firmly with the Saudi leadership and the brotherly people there in this critical time. The Pakistani Prime Minister assured the Crown Prince that Pakistan will continue to work closely with Saudi Arabia and the international community to ensure peace, security, stability and unhindered conduct of lawful maritime trade in the Red Sea, the Strait of Hormuz and the entire region. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman praised Pakistan’s support and the friendly relations between the two countries.
