The benchmark VN-Index lost 62 points, or 3.6%, to close the day at a four-month low.
Shares of Vingroup, the conglomerate belonging to Vietnam’s richest man Pham Nhat Vuong, fell by the maximum allowed 7% to VND202,000 (US$7.68).
As a result, Vuong’s net worth declined by $2.4 billion to $31.6 billion. Two members of his family, Pham Thu Huong and Pham Thuy Hang, saw their wealth eroded by $304 million and $213 million.
Vietjet chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao lost $163 million after the budget carrier’s shares closed 3.7% lower.
Techcombank chairman Ho Hung Anh took a $50-million hit following a 2.7% drop in the lender’s stock price.
The net worths of VPBank chairman Ngo Chi Dung and steelmaker Hoa Phat Group’s chairman Tran Dinh Long saw smaller changes.

Vietnam previously had an eighth billionaire, Masan Group chairman Nguyen Dang Quang, but he exited the list earlier this month as shares of his conglomerate declined.
