New steel faucets are very shiny and attractive when fitted in the bathroom or kitchen of the house. But over time, due to constant exposure to daily water, soap and dirt, white water marks (salts), black spots and stubborn stains return. Due to this dirt, the whole bathroom starts to look dirty. Most of the time people buy expensive chemical cleaners from the market to shine the faucet, but you don’t need to spend money on expensive cleaners every time.
If the faucets in your home are also old, dirty and filled with white salts, you can make them shine like new again with the help of a few items available in the kitchen. Using just three inexpensive items, you can make a powerful cleaner at home. Let’s learn an easy way to make and use it.
Make a homemade cleaner with these 3 inexpensive items
You don’t need to bring any special items from the market for cleaning steel taps, just gather the following materials:
-
1 teaspoon dishwashing powder
-
A little Harpic cleaner
-
1 packet Eno
How to make: Mix these three things together in a small glass or plastic bowl. If required, add a little more Harpic to make a thick paste (thick lap).
A step-by-step way to clean a faucet
- First, lightly wet the dirty steel faucet by splashing some water on it. If you use lukewarm (mildly warm) water, the hardened salts and grime will soften a bit, making cleaning easier.
- Now apply the prepared homemade cleaner paste evenly on the tap with the help of an old brush and leave it for about 30 minutes (half an hour).
- After the time is up, scrub the faucet gently using an old toothbrush or soft scrubber (soft douche).
- Finally rinse the faucet with clean water and immediately wipe with a dry cloth. Doing so will make the taps look cleaner and shine like brand new. If the stains are very old and stubborn, you can repeat the same process a second time.
What items will this cleaner work on?
This household cleaner is not limited to just bathroom faucets. You can also use it to clean other stainless steel fittings, showers and steel sinks. However, before applying this paste on any delicate, precious or specially polished surface, it is imperative to do a patch test on a small corner of it.
Be sure to follow these precautions while cleaning
-
Be sure to wear gloves when applying or mixing this cleaner.
-
Do not let this paste come in direct contact with eyes or skin even by mistake.
-
After cleaning, thoroughly rinse the faucet or steel surface with water to remove any chemical residue.
-
As this mixture uses strong chemicals like Harpic, keep it completely out of reach of children.
