Work has commenced on potential changes to the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). These changes will be implemented starting with CLAT 2028. Consequently, CLAT 2027 will be conducted based on the existing exam pattern. While there will be no changes to the exam pattern or syllabus for the CLAT 2028 UG and PG exams, the quality of the questions may vary. CLAT 2027 will be a two-hour, computer-based test comprising 120 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Candidates will be awarded one mark for each correct answer, while 0.25 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer.

The syllabus for the CLAT 2027 UG and PG papers consists of five sections: English Language, Current Affairs (including General Knowledge), Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques.

Applications for CLAT 2027 begin on August 3
According to the notification, the CLAT 2027 exam is scheduled for December 6, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The online application process will commence on August 3, 2026, with the deadline for applications set for October 31, 2026. This decision was reached following a discussion on the expert committee's report during the annual meeting of the Consortium's Governing Body held on July 18, 2026. Candidates preparing for the exam will be able to submit their applications within the stipulated timeframe.
