Every year, students from across the country enroll at Delhi University (DU). A significant number of these students come to Delhi from other states and cities. Hostels are considered the most convenient accommodation option for such students. However, not all DU colleges offer hostel facilities, and where available, the number of seats is limited. Consequently, securing a hostel seat is not easy for every student. Not all colleges at Delhi University have hostel facilities. There are approximately 4,000 hostel seats available in total, comprising both university-run central hostels and individual college hostels. This figure includes around 2,859 seats in central hostels. Several institutions—such as Hindu College, Hansraj College, Ramjas College, Kirori Mal College, Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Miranda House, Daulat Ram College, Indraprastha College for Women (IPCW), and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College—provide hostel facilities. Additionally, 18 central university hostels are available to students. Due to limited capacity, only eligible students secure hostel accommodation.
**How Hostel Allotment Works**
Merely securing admission to the university is not enough to get a hostel seat at DU. After gaining admission to a specific college or department, students must apply separately for hostel accommodation. Each college has its own set of rules, eligibility criteria, fee structures, and application procedures. In most colleges, hostel allotment is based on merit, reservation policies, and university-mandated guidelines.
**Document Verification for Shortlisted Students**
Following the application stage, the documents of shortlisted students undergo verification. Some hostels also conduct an interview as part of the selection process. Therefore, students should apply on time and keep all necessary documents ready to ensure a smooth hostel allotment process.
