Amidst the ongoing student movement and political turmoil in the country’s capital Delhi, the Narendra Modi government seems to be getting a big relief. A few days after the students’ Parliament march, the government has finally ended the fast of environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk, who was on a long hunger strike against the education system and paper leak. Wangchuk, admitted in a hospital in Gurugram, broke his fast late on Thursday night after receiving written assurances from the government. However, a major turning point in this entire incident came when Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) chief Abhijit Deepke parted ways with Sonam Wangchuk and made it clear that until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns from his post, his agitation at Jantar Mantar will continue with full force. Sonam Wangchuk ended her 26-day fast after the government’s assurance. Sonam Wangchuk had conducted a historic hunger strike for 26 days at Jantar Mantar in the national capital for her demands. After his health deteriorated, he was first admitted to Safdarjung and then to a private hospital in Gurugram. On behalf of the government, Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh reached the hospital and handed over the government’s letter of assurance to Wangchuk. In this letter, full assurance has been given not to file any criminal case against the students who demonstrated peacefully at Parliament March and Jantar Mantar, to give appropriate compensation to the families of victims in NEET suicide cases and to have a meaningful discussion on this serious issue on the floor of Parliament. After reading out the letter, JP Nadda broke Wangchuk’s fast with his own hands. There is a big difference between the fear of violence and the priorities of CJP. After the fast was broken, Sonam Wangchuk has issued a post on social media expressing her concern about possible violence in the country. He said that this decision has been taken after a long discussion on national interest and various conditions, and he will soon clarify the entire situation through video. He has also appealed to the countrymen to avoid any kind of violence and remain alert. Experts say that Live Hindustan had already expressed apprehension that the Cockroach Janata Party may continue its protest even after Sonam Wangchuk’s withdrawal, because there was a clear difference in the priorities and strategies of both. Abhijit Deepke’s blunt announcement – The struggle will continue till the resignation of the Education Minister. On Sonam Wangchuk ending his fast, CJP chief Abhijit Deepke praised her indomitable courage and sacrifice and said that Wangchuk’s life is priceless for the country and everyone is relieved by her breaking her fast. However, along with this, Deepke took a tough stand and made it clear that the party is not going to back down from the demand for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. CJP has called for vigorous demonstrations in every district of the country today, which is also getting support from various political parties. Today, the eyes of the entire country are fixed on this important second round of meeting to be held between the representatives of the government and the Cockroach Janata Party in the Constitution Club.
