Guwahati: At least 47 people have lost their lives, 40 others are missing, and nearly 7.21 lakh people continued to remain missing across 11 districts, as flood situations remained grim across Assam on Friday. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is likely to hold a video conference with senior officials stationed in flood-affected areas

Speaking to reporters, the chief minister said as per news agency PTI, “The situation has improved slightly, but we still have not been able to reach around 20 per cent of the affected people. I believe we will be able to reach them by today.” He added that death toll might increase further.

Sarma, further said, “The government will stand by the flood victims and will help as far as possible. A central government team will visit the state to assess the flood damage on July 25”. Sharing further details, a official from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said that Dikhow river at Sivasagar continued to flow “above the severe flood condition” this morning at 9 AM. “Due to the continuous increase in the water level of Dikhow, citizens have been advised to stay away from the river,” the official added. According to officials several rivers are flowing above the danger margin in the state currently. Among them are – Buridihing river at Khowang, Disang at Nanglamuraghat, Dikhou at Sivasagar, Dhansiri at Numaligarh and Kushiyara at Sribhumi.

Sharing further details, officials said that over 7,21,000 people have been affected in 11 districts including Dibrugarh,Charaideo, Hojai, Golaghat, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Jorhat, Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, Sivasagar and Tinsukia. Sivasagar is the worst-hit with around 3.8 lakh people affected. The district is followed by Charaideo with nearly 1.9 lakh people affected. An official said that while 883 villages are under water, nearly 25,375.44 hectares of crop areas have been damaged.
