Modern lifestyle habits and poor daily routines have made people more vulnerable to chronic illnesses — even at a young age. One such lifestyle- disease is diabetes which silently weakens the body from within. Many believe diabetes is caused solely by eating sweets, but the truth is far more complex.

When the hormone insulin produced by the pancreas fails to function properly, glucose starts accumulating in the blood. Any disturbance in the pancreas affects insulin production, leading to a rise in blood sugar levels. As glucose builds up, symptoms like fatigue, weight loss, frequent urination, tingling in the feet, blurred vision and complications in the kidneys and brain begin to appear.

In Ayurveda, diabetes is considered a disorder of Vata, Kapha, and Meda doshas gradually weakening the body. The causes go beyond just sugar intake — including high-fat and high-carb diets, excessive stress, lack of sleep, physical inactivit yand an overall imbalanced lifestyle.

Ayurveda also offers several natural ways to help manage blood sugar levels. Experts recommend starting the day with fenugreek (methi) seed water as it supports glucose metabolism. Fresh bitter gourd (karela) and jamun seed juice are also known to regulate blood sugar naturally. Drinking water soaked with coriander seeds and consuming Triphala powder at night can provide additional relief.

Lifestyle changes are equally important. A 30-minute daily walk or light physical activity helps maintain sugar balance. Including green vegetables, lentils, and fruits in the diet, avoiding tea and coffee and drinking turmeric milk before bedtime can further improve overall well-being.

However, Ayurveda advises not to stop prescribed medicines without medical consultation. Patients should consult their doctor before adjusting medication while integrating these traditional remedies into their routine.
