Resignation of President Shahabuddin
On Friday, President Mohammad Shahabuddin of Bangladesh announced his resignation, stepping down nearly two years before the end of his term. He was appointed to the presidency by the previous Parliament and is notably the last official remaining in his constitutional role following the tumultuous student uprising in July-August 2024, which resulted in the ousting of Sheikh Hasina's Awami League government. Since August 5, 2024, Hasina has been residing in India.
