New Delhi: Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions Pvt. Ltd. has initiated the process of acquiring the exclusive theatrical distribution rights for GDN, the upcoming film directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar and starring R. Madhavan, Sathyaraj, Jayaram and Priyamani.
According to a public notice issued by the company, Dharma intends to obtain the theatrical rights for the film’s original Tamil version as well as its Telugu-dubbed version from Varghese Moolan Pictures LLP.
The proposed acquisition covers the film’s theatrical release across North India, Karnataka and the remaining territories of India, while specifically excluding Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
The notice also invites any individual or entity claiming an interest in the film or the proposed theatrical rights to submit their objections in writing within 15 days of the publication date. If no claims are received within the stipulated period, Dharma Productions is expected to proceed with the transaction without further reference to any such claims.
GDN was initially slated to release in theatres on July 17. However, the makers postponed the release to avoid a box office clash with Vijay starrer Jana Nayagan.
The film is based on the life of GDN Naidu, who is known as one of India’s most influential inventors. The film narrates the inspirational story of a man who transformed imported technologies into practical and affordable innovations for Indian consumers. He also earned the title of the country’s “Edison”.
Directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar, the film also features Priyamani, Sathraj, Jayaram, and Dushara Vijayan, in key roles.
The film is produced by Varghese Moolan in association with Tricolour Films, the production banner founded by Madahavan and his wife, Sarita. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on August 7.
