Former England captain Jos Buttler has revealed a memorable gesture from Rohit Sharma following the conclusion of the recently concluded ODI series between India and England. Buttler shared a picture of Rohit's autographed India ODI jersey on his Instagram Stories, thanking the former India captain for the special gift.
The exchange came after the third ODI at Lord's, where India suffered a 27-run defeat to lose the three-match series 2-1. India had begun the series with a six-wicket victory in Birmingham before England bounced back by winning the remaining two matches.
Rohit's gift also marked what could potentially have been his final international appearance on English soil, making the moment particularly significant for both players, who have shared several memorable battles across international and franchise cricket.
Sharing the picture on Instagram Stories, Buttler wrote,
“The one opposition player’s shirt I’ve always wanted. One of my all-time favourite players! Will treasure this. Thank you @rohitsharma45."

Rohit's record-breaking knock at Lord's
Although India fell short in the series decider, Rohit produced one of the finest ODI innings of his career. The opener scored 138 runs from 110 deliveries during India's pursuit of 389, becoming the first Indian batter to register an ODI century at Lord's.
His innings also saw him equal Viv Richards' record for the highest individual ODI score at the venue. The century was Rohit's eighth in One-Day Internationals on English soil, the most by any batter in a single overseas country.
Along with the signed jersey, Rohit included a personal message for Buttler, expressing his appreciation for having played both alongside and against the England wicketkeeper-batter over the years.
Long-standing bond extends beyond international cricket
The relationship between Rohit and Buttler stretches beyond international cricket. Buttler made his Indian Premier League debut for Mumbai Indians in 2016 under Rohit's captaincy and was part of the franchise's title-winning squad in 2017. The England batter now represents Gujarat Titans in the IPL.
During the recent white-ball series, Buttler featured in all five T20Is and three ODIs, scoring 63 runs in the ODI leg. His standout performance came in the fifth T20I at Southampton, where his unbeaten 131 helped England post 257/3 and secure a 56-run victory. The innings remains the highest individual T20I score against India.
