New Delhi: Just days after Rohit Sharma slammed his 34th ODI century in the 3rd ODI against England at Lord’s Cricket Ground, the BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla has again quashed rumours surrounding the veteran opener’s future in international cricket, insisting there is “no question” of him stepping away.

Rohit’s retirement speculation intensified during India’s ODI series against England, with reports suggesting that the series decider at Lord’s could be his last appearance in the Indian jersey. But Rohit answered his critics in style, smacking a sensational 138 off 110 balls to become the first Indian batter to smash an ODI century at the Home of Cricket.

“My job is with the bat. Come and play, represent my country. Since I made my debut, the noise was there. Till the time I am going to be there, the noise will be there. Doesn’t matter to me. What matters is what I do on the field,” Rohit said after the match.

Shukla said that Rohit is part of the Indian team and the news circulated in the media and on social media has no meaning, as there is no question on the opener’s retirement.

“Rohit Sharma is a part of our team and is continuing to play. The things being circulated in the media and on social media have no meaning. As of now, there is no question of his retirement,” Shukla said while inaugurating the mini auction for the fourth season of the UP T20 League.

Shukla also backed India’s current leadership, and dismissed rumours surrounding head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill’s roles, saying that the team is doing well.

“Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the decision on who stays in the team and who does not rests with the selectors. The Indian team is performing well and winning matches, so there is no need for any changes at present,” he said.

The Men in Blue suffered a 1-2 defeat in the three-match ODI series against England. India were also whitewashed 2-0 by Ireland and hammered 4-0 by England in the T20I series.
