The figure represented a 20.4% increase from 2025, according to data released by the National Immigration Administration (NIA).

NIA spokesperson Lin Yongsheng said at a news conference that the growth was mainly thanks to simplified travel procedures and visa waivers.

Nearly 18 million foreigners entered the country visa-free, up 30.6% from last year.

The top 10 source markets were South Korea, Russia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, the U.S., Japan, Mongolia, and Australia.

Le Phuong, sales manager at Trang An Travel, said there was a sharp increase in the number of Vietnamese traveling to China.

His company saw bookings jump by around 50% in 2025-2026 from two years earlier, he said.

“Improving service quality, infrastructure, and flight connectivity have made China a highly attractive choice for Vietnamese visitors.”

Cultural similarities, plenty of scenic spots, and flexible entry policies were other factors, he said.

Travelers could choose from options ranging from VND3 million (US$114) to VND40 million (US$1,500), and from over 40 flight and 20 overland routes, he said.

He added that consumer preferences are shifting toward premium tours, with more and more opting for shopping-free tours to popular autumn spots like Beijing, Shanghai, Jiuzhai Valley, and Lijiang.
