Manchester United are building genuine optimism about their chances of signing Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni, with the Spanish club possibly open to a sizeable bid at 26.
That is according to BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone, who points to Tchouaméni as one of several international midfielders United are tracking as they make the position a priority this summer. Transfer account UtdDistrict, citing insider sistoney67, also said this week that there is a positive mood around United’s chances – although it notes a contradiction in the reporting: claims that Tchouaméni has agreed a new deal at the Bernabeu do not fit with the belief that Real are willing to cash in on him.

United first went after Tchouaméni when he left Monaco in 2022, but they were beaten by Madrid, where he has since grown into one of the most effective midfielders in Europe across 191 appearances. The Reds now want to make midfield their main business after last summer’s focus on attack – with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo both arriving with Premier League-proven profiles – and goalkeeping the year before,

At domestic level, Stone names Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton as options. There are, however, increasing doubts over Wharton’s suitability, because his profile is very similar to Kobbie Mainoo, who is close to signing a lucrative contract extension.
