Ivorian wonderkid is the envy of Europe’s biggest clubs

Real Madrid have sent shockwaves through the transfer market with a surprise €100m (£85.4m) bid for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande.

Real have made major progress in reshaping Jose Mourinho’s squad this summer, and are understood to be looking to bring in Manchester City’s Rodri after already adding the likes of Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries earlier in the window.

The move for Diomande, however, is their boldest so far. The Ivorian winger has attracted interest from several clubs this summer, most notably Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain. Arsenal have also been linked.

Liverpool pulled out of the race for the 19-year-old in late June after their bids for his signature were turned down and they were told he preferred a move to Paris.

He had agreed personal terms with the European champions earlier in the window, but PSG struggled for weeks to reach an agreement with Leipzig and now face strong competition for his signing.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Real have tabled a €100m bid, made up of €90m upfront and €10m in add-ons, although Leipzig have rejected the offer as they are holding out for a package closer to €130m.

The Bundesliga club are also hoping to persuade the young Ivorian to sign a new contract, even though he still has four years left on his current deal.

If Diomande does join Real, it could open the door for Brahim Diaz to leave the club before the transfer window closes.

Diomande played an important role for Ivory Coast at the World Cup, providing one assist in four matches as Les Elephants exited in the last-32.

He was even more effective in front of goal for Leipzig last season, scoring 12 goals and adding eight assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances.
