Serie A giants Juventus are said to be weighing up a daring summer approach for Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes. As Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur has reported via Calciomercato, the Turin club regard the Portugal international as a possible marquee addition.
Juventus have kept a fairly quiet profile in the early stages of the summer transfer window. Beyond Zeki Celik’s arrival on a Bosman deal, Luciano Spalletti’s side have only brought in Jeff Ekhator from Genoa to bolster their attack after the exit of Dusan Vlahovic.
Even so, Spalletti is determined to add at least one top-level player to his oversized squad in the coming weeks. With Teun Koopmeiners and Douglas Luiz both widely expected to leave Juventus this summer, the former Napoli coach is eager to secure an elite midfielder. Unsurprisingly, the Bianconeri lacked creativity last season.
Fully aware of that issue, Spalletti had hoped to bring Bernardo Silva to Turin. However, after failing to secure Champions League qualification, Juventus missed out on the Portuguese star, who has now joined Real Madrid on a free transfer.
Even though they fell short in their attempt to sign Silva, Juventus are still hopeful of landing another Portuguese star. Fernandes, who spent five years in Italy before moving to Sporting CP in 2017, has been placed on Giovanni Carnevali’s shortlist.
His contract with Manchester United expires next summer. But that is arguably the only factor that could give Juventus encouragement. Along with wearing the captain’s armband for the Red Devils, Fernandes has been a crucial figure for the team over the past six years.
Just last season, he set a new Premier League record for assists in a single season, highlighting his unmatched influence. He would be a major signing for Juventus, but this move does not appear likely to materialise.
