Reports in Italy say that Marcus Rashford’s name has been raised in discussions between Roma and Manchester United while they were talking about a possible move for Manu Kone, although the chances of the Giallorossi securing a deal for the England international already appear slim.

Manchester United are among the clubs interested in a possible agreement for Roma and France midfielder Kone, who caught the eye with his performances while on international duty at the 2026 World Cup.

Roma are still considering the possibility that they may need to sell players to stay within FFP restrictions, and parting with Kone this summer could potentially bring in around €60m in transfer fees, according to the latest updates from La Gazzetta dello Sport.

However, despite their early interest, Manchester United are not fully convinced about Kone, especially at a price of €60m, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports. Saturday’s update says that the Manchester United hierarchy are not united on whether to sign Kone at that valuation.

As a result, United are expected to keep negotiating with Roma in an effort to bring down the asking price.

There are already several problems with this idea, though, not least the player’s wages, which are reported to be around €10m per season in net salary, plus bonuses of around €2.5m, which would make him the highest-paid player in Serie A by a clear margin.

Roma would also be looking at the option of taking Rashford on an initial loan deal rather than a permanent transfer, and La Gazzetta dello Sport says United would still need to pay a significant part of the forward’s salary, which appears to be an unlikely outcome.
