On Saturday, 32 days after the tragic death of 15 people in the Aliganj fire, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) took major action and ran a bulldozer on the illegal four-storey building where the accident took place. The demolition operation began in the morning in the presence of heavy police force, three bulldozers and hydraulic machines.

LDA says that this action is being taken due to violation of rules and illegal construction. The LDA team reached the spot at around 7:30 am with three bulldozers, a hydraulic machine and 45 officers and employees. During the action, traffic was stopped by barricading the surrounding roads, while more than 100 policemen were deployed for security. The campaign to demolish the building continued throughout the day.

After the death of 15 people, the investigation was exposed

On June 22, a massive fire broke out in the Animation Coaching Center operating on the second floor of this building in Aliganj. 15 people were burnt to death in the accident. Many people saved their lives with the help of pipes and electrical wires, while a young man was seriously injured after jumping from the second floor. This accident had shocked the entire state.

Investigation revealed that the building which was approved for residential use, was being used commercially. Besides, the construction was also found to be contrary to the accepted standards and maps. After this, the LDA issued a notice to the building owner seeking a reply and on July 10 ordered the demolition of the building itself within 15 days.

Bulldozer started as soon as the deadline ended

The building was not demolished even after the stipulated time limit was reached. After this, on Saturday, LDA itself started the demolition process by running a bulldozer. LDA says that strict action will continue against illegal construction in future also.

Building owner expressed objection to the action

During the demolition, building owner Virendra Shukla’s advocate Rajendra Shukla reached the spot and raised questions on the action. They allege that LDA had given time till July 25, but started the action on the same day without issuing a separate demolition order. He said that this action will be challenged in court.

After this accident that took the lives of 15 people, the administration is continuously taking strict action against illegal construction and violation of rules. Running a bulldozer on the building where the accident occurred is being considered as the biggest link in this action. Now all eyes are on the further legal process in this entire matter and the action to be taken against the people responsible.
