Pune Metro Line 3 : The first phase between ‘Maan to Balewadi’ under Pune Metro Route 3 (Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar) has received final approval for passenger traffic from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). This has completely cleared the way for the third metro of Punekars connecting IT Park. After the successful completion of the technical inspection, now only the inauguration by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is awaited to start actual passenger services on this route.

A green light from the Security Commissioner

A special team of the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) under the Ministry of Civil Aviation conducted a thorough and highly stringent technical inspection of the route. The test, which ran for four consecutive days from July 5 to 8, thoroughly examined the metro’s tracks, high-voltage overhead wires, emergency security systems and passenger facilities at the stations. Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) fulfilled all the technical criteria that emerged during this inspection in time. Finally, expressing complete satisfaction with all the completion reports of the administration, the Safety Commissioner has handed over the official and final approval letter for starting commercial passenger traffic on this 13 km route on July 23. First stage; ‘Man’ to ‘R. K. Laxman Museum’

The first phase to be opened for passenger service under this project has a total length of 13 km and it has been completely elevated. This route starts from Maan Station and moves through various parts of IT Park to R. Balewadi. K. Laxman reaches the museum and stops. A total of 12 state-of-the-art stations have been set up for the convenience of passengers in this 13-km corridor, where all civic amenities are available for the passengers. A huge and state-of-the-art metro depot at Mann itself has also been fully operational for train movement, technical control and routine maintenance of trains on this entire route. Pune Metro Line 3

State-of-the-art technical features

This new metro line is equipped with many state-of-the-art and world-class technical features. The safety commissioner has approved metro trains to run at a maximum speed of 80 km per hour on this track, offering a perfect balance between safety and speed. An advanced communication based railway control signaling system is used for precise movement of trains on this route, which also has the potential to operate the metro with driverless technology in the future. Interestingly, the line will be powered by a trackside 750 volt DC (750V DC) ‘third-rail’ traction system instead of conventional overhead power lines to preserve the city’s visual appeal. Apart from this, passengers will have access to state-of-the-art facility of easy ticket booking through National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), WhatsApp QR code and UPI payment from day one to promote digital travel. Relief of ITians from traffic jams

Due to road traffic congestion in Hinjewadi and Balewadi areas, thousands of IT employees and local citizens have to be stuck in traffic for hours every day. The commencement of this first phase of metro service will bring a huge relief to thousands of technicians and employees who will be visiting the Hinjewadi IT Park. Metro will directly save more than 50 percent of travel time for passengers compared to private vehicles and buses on the road. This will not only save fuel, but also reduce mental anguish and pollution to a great extent. Meanwhile, the second phase of this route (Balewadi to Shivajinagar) is also targeted to be completed by the end of this year, so that the entire 23.3 km corridor will be connected to central Pune and will completely change the traffic picture.
