Police have arrested Jan Shakti Janata Dal chief and former minister Tej Pratap Yadav on serious charges of disturbing law and order, obstructing government work and inciting supporters during the Bihar Bandh and demanding the resignation of the Union Education Minister in the NEET paper leak case.

Tej Pratap Yadav arrived at Ramgulam Chowk on Saturday afternoon and stood firm in support of the students. The police initially detained them as a precautionary measure, but were released after a while fearing that the situation might escalate.

The police team made an arrest from the mall

After the release, Tej Pratap reached the City Center Mall on Fraser Road in the early evening. A special police team then arrested him from the mall. He was first taken to Digha Police Station and later transferred to Naubatpur Police Station late at night. An FIR has been registered against him at the Gandhi Maidan police station, while the Kotwali police have detained 60 supporters, including MLA Gautam Krishna. Apart from this, police from Kotwali police station have also detained Saharsa-Mahishi MLA Gautam Krishna, who was involved in the protest. Four separate cases have been registered at Gandhi Maidan and Kotwali police station in connection with the protest.

FIR filed against thousands of people

As soon as the former minister arrived, the protesters got angry and started vandalizing and pelting stones in the area. 12 policemen including Bakarganj station house officer were seriously injured in this violence. On the other hand, more than 20 protesters were reportedly injured in police lathicharge. Based on the Magistrate’s statement, the Gandhi Maidan Police has taken strict action against the protesters. Cases have been filed against 200 named and around 2,000 unidentified persons.
