In the women’s competition, the Indian sub-junior team won the silver medal after losing 2-4 in the final against China.

Muscat. The Indian sub-junior men’s team won the FIH Youth Hockey Fives Asian Championship by defeating arch-rivals Pakistan 3-1 in the final. With the help of goals from Romit Pal (fifth), captain Ketan Kushwaha (12th) and Shahrukh Ali (13th minute), India succeeded in becoming Asian champion.

With this victory, the Indian men’s team reached the top position in the elite pool table. India took an early lead in the final on the basis of accurate passes and disciplined strategy. Romit Pal scored the first goal in the first half, beating the Pakistani goalkeeper and giving India a 1-0 lead at half time.

Captain Ketan Kushwaha (12th minute) scored a goal at the beginning of the second half to put India in a strong position. Shahrukh Ali scored another goal soon after and made the score 3-0.

Pakistan reduced the gap with a goal by Mohammad Usman (16th minute), but the Indian defense stood firm in the last minutes and did not allow any goals. Both India and Pakistan have qualified for the first FIH Youth Hockey Fives World Cup by reaching the finals.

In the women’s competition, the Indian sub-junior team won the silver medal after losing 2-4 in a tough match against China in the final. Hockey India announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh to each player of the gold medal winning Indian men’s team and Rs 1 lakh to each member of the support staff, while Rs 1 lakh to each player of the silver medal winning Indian women’s team and Rs 50,000 to each member of the support staff.
