A strong turnout of artists, collectors and students marked the opening of Rhythms of Black & White at Nayan Naveli Gallery on Thursday, positioning the exhibition as a notable addition to the Capital’s current art calendar. Curated by Amrita Kochhar, the group show brings together 13 contemporary artists working within the discipline of monochrome.

Focusing exclusively on black-and-white visual language, the exhibition explores how tonal contrast, texture and form can carry narrative without the use of colour. The works on display span abstraction and figurative interpretations, engaging with themes of memory, movement and stillness, while reflecting a growing interest in minimal visual vocabularies within contemporary Indian art.

The inauguration was attended by senior artists Maïté Delteil, Anjolie Ela Menon and Jatin Das, whose presence underscored the exhibition’s relevance within the larger art ecosystem. Gallery representatives noted a steady footfall through the evening, with a mix of established collectors and younger audiences engaging with the works.
An interactive segment during the opening drew particular attention. Visitors participated in a timed live illustration exercise, beginning with a minute of silence followed by spontaneous sketching. The activity, designed to encourage intuitive expression, saw wide participation and emerged as a key highlight of the event.
Artists featured in the exhibition include Ambrish Mishra, Chaya Dubey, Indeera ITTI Menon, Jiten Sahu, Kumari Nidhi, Rakhee Kumari, Roopali Dhawan, Sangeeta Jindal, Sanjay Tikkal, Sarika Poornanand, Snneha, Sonam Singh and Keshri Nandan. Their collective showcase reflects the continued relevance of monochrome practices in contemporary art discourse.

Rhythms of Black & White will remain on view at Nayan Naveli Gallery until August 3, 2026.
