Antonio Nusa is still a real option for Roma, but the figures make clear why the move has been so slow to progress.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, RB Leipzig have placed a €55m valuation on the Norwegian winger, which is higher than the €50m that would have landed Crysencio Summerville before his transfer to Saudi Arabia, even though he managed only four Bundesliga goals last season.

That is the same total Lorenzo Pellegrini, now a free agent, produced in Serie A. Raising those numbers is normally one of Gian Piero Gasperini’s strengths; he is the coach who turned the previously wasteful Lookman into a 15-goal scorer at Atalanta. Even so, the changing figures being mentioned show how hard Roma are finding it to push deals through to completion.

Roma need three attacking signings: two wingers and a backup for Donyell Malen. Three targets have already slipped away, including Tzolis’s move to Arsenal, but three options are still alive.

Nusa is Plan A, a player who links up brilliantly with Erling Haaland for Norway, while Cologne’s El Mala is the Plan B for the final third. Leipzig’s own interest in El Mala may yet become the factor that unlocks Nusa, making this a triangle worth following closely.

Gasperini is also interested in Fenerbahçe’s Kerem Aktürkoğlu and Benfica’s Andreas Schjelderup, while Marcus Rashford was said to have been offered on Friday as part of the ongoing talks with Manchester United over Manu Koné.

The idea for the trequarti is to combine one established player with one promising youngster at a lower fee, with PSG’s 18-year-old Mbaye and Feyenoord’s Sauer both long monitored by sporting director D’Amico. Tresoldi would come back into the picture only if the chase for Santiago Castro does not succeed.

After almost two months of deadlock and with 37 days left in the window, Roma still have both the time and the resources. Their directors will only need to keep their composure.
