RBI New Currency Update: Every day crores of people in India use Rs 10 and Rs 20 notes. Small currency notes get spoiled quickly due to repeated use. In view of this problem, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is preparing to make small notes stronger and longer lasting. For this, work is being done on testing polymer i.e. plastic based notes.

According to the plan of RBI, initially trial of polymer notes of Rs 10 and Rs 20 can be done. These notes can be more durable and secure than before. If this plan is successful, then the use of polymer currency in place of paper notes may increase in future India.

What are polymer notes?

Polymer notes are made from a special type of plastic material. These are stronger than normal paper notes and do not get easily damaged by things like water, moisture, dust. Their lifespan is also longer than paper notes, due to which they can be used for a long time.

Fake notes may also be banned

It is easy to install modern security technology in polymer notes. With this, real and fake notes can be easily identified. This can help in stopping those making fake notes. Polymer notes are already being used in many countries of the world.

Can polymer notes be folded?

Polymer notes may look like plastic, but they are not hard. These are thin and flexible, so they can be easily folded like ordinary paper notes and kept in the pocket or wallet. Their special thing is that even after repeated folding, they do not get permanent wrinkles like paper notes.
